Salmonella - stool markers - determination of Salmonella antigens
Enterology: Salmonella
The apDia Salmonella ELISA (Ref. 610011) is an In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) immunoassay for the qualitative determination of Salmonella species in faecal specimens. The kit is optimized to be used with stool samples enriched in selenite buffer.
Gastrointestinal infections are still a worldwide public health problem, being one of the primary causes of medical consultation. Among the bacteria responsible for these syndromes, Salmonella spp. are one of the most common causes of bacterial diarrheal disease. Salmonella infects humans and animals through the oral route following ingestion of contaminated food. The symptoms of Salmonella infection may vary from mild forms of diarrhea to severe gastroenteritis.
The processing of a stool culture in the search for Salmonella spp. and other enteric pathogens by means of the standard culture method is slow and labour intensive, results typically not being available for 2-3 days. The apDia Salmonella ELISA test is a sensitive and specific test for Salmonella antigens which gives test results within less than 20 hours. Only positive results need to be confirmed, saving time and reducing costs.
- Sensitivity: comparable to culture methods

The ELISA kits offered by apDia are validated on open ELISA automates such as the Dynex Instruments and the Triturus automate.
